CNC Steel Machining

Steel is an alloy material with iron as the main element, carbon content of 0.0218-2.11%, and other elements.

Steel is used in several industries as a material in metal manufacturing services. You may think that the machinability of hard metals is difficult. Tuofa has accumulated extensive experience in the design, prototyping and production of parts and assembled components. We have achieved greater flexibility in hard metal machining applications with CNC technology from top machinists, while advanced CNC machines help keep our costs running low.

Good Sealing

The welded steel parts can be completely airtight, so they are suitable for the construction of gas irrigation, oil cylinders, pipelines and high-pressure vessels that require good air and water tightness.

1018 Steel Properties

AISI 1018 steel is a low carbon steel with ductility. Basically, they are more feasible in workability and weldability than medium and high carbon content steels.

1018 Steel Chemical Properties

Tensile Strength (MPa): 450 Chemical composition (%):
Yield strength (MPa): 275 C: 0.17 - 0.24
Elongation (%): 24 Mn: 0.70 - 1.00
Section shrinkage (%): 50 P: 0.035
Hardness : 197HB without heat treatment S: 0.035
  Si: 0.17- 0.37
  Cr: 0.25
  Cu: 0.25
  Ni: 0.25
Similar steel grades: Chinese steel materials close to the grade such as 16Mn steel h or 20Mn steel.
Forging: heated to 1275°C, forging should be stopped when the temperature of the forging is lowered to below 910°C.
Uses: As the carbon content increases, the strength also increases, accompanied by a small decrease in cold formability. The higher Mn content increases the hardenability of surface-hardened parts slightly. Widely used in the manufacture of pistons, screws, drive shafts, machine tools and springs.

1018 Steel Heat Treatment

Normalizing: Heat to 925°C, cool.

Annealing: Heating to 885°C, slow cooling, preferably in a cooler or with the furnace.

Surface hardening: parts can be hardened and wear-resistant by carbonitriding, the depth of the layer formed depends on the heating temperature and time.

Tempering: Tempering at 150-205°C can reduce the brittleness of the part's seepage layer without causing a decrease in surface hardness.

4140 Steel Properties

It is one of the most widely used medium carbon alloy steels. The price is relatively cheap, fully hardened 4140 steel varies with the accuracy of the carbon content. Malleability is very good, but machinability is only moderate. Weldability is not good, as it is sensitive to welding cracks.

People Also Ask

Can you cut steel with a CNC?

Of course. Generally 6mm or more steel plate is recommended to be cut by CNC machine, because such steel plate produces little thermal deformation.
